Last winter I found myself amidst the seasonal blues. I had recently moved to a different state, started a new job, and was far away from family. All the changes and dreary weather took a toll on my moods and energy levels. I was losing my positive attitude, and knew it was my mindset that needed to change. So for Christmas I asked my family to look for motivational and inspiring wellness books; things like empowering poetry or uplifting quotes. And my family came through!
I want to share four books I received that have helped boost my happiness this year as I’ve shifted my focus from the negative to the positive aspects of life.

4 Brilliant Wellness Books You Should Buy Right Now
1. Brave Enough by Cheryl Strayed
Numba 1 in this list of wellness books is a little gem called Brave Enough. It’s a collection of motivational quotes designed to give you the kick in the butt you need to go face your day head on.
Pretty much all of the quotes can apply to your life in some way. When I feel unmotivated or am lacking self-confidence, it’s my go-to. I like that it’s physically on the smaller side, so you can stick it in a bag or backpack and take it with you during the day.
My favorite way to use it is to read a quote or two while finishing up breakfast in the morning, right before I head out the door to work. Then I’m like, “World, get at me.”

2. 52 Lists for Happiness by Moorea Seal
Sometimes just spending a moment to think about what makes you happy will actually help increase your happiness. That’s the premise of this book of lists. Each week of the year there’s a new prompt, each of which invites you to be more mindful of the positives in your life. For each list, there’s also a suggestion of actions you can take to further boost your present happiness.

3. Good Days Start with Gratitude Journal by prettysimplebooks
Along the same lines, this is another interactive wellness book where there’s a place every day of the year to list 3 three things that make you grateful. Each week also has an inspiring quote. I’ve truly learned that focusing on what you appreciate in life right at this moment can make all the difference. No matter what, there are always three things I can think of each day.

4. Devotions by Mary Oliver
When I go to bed, my thoughts are often a jumble of to-dos, regrets, and anxiety. It’s so beneficial to have a way to shift your focus to something more calming.
Devotions is a collection of poems written by Mary Oliver, and many of the poems describe nature scenes and are thought-provoking – in a good way. I like to read one or two poems right before bed to help disconnect from the outside world. The peaceful poems often lead to a peaceful night’s sleep.
